Making a life-or-death reality show come alive on the big screen is no mean feat. But this is exactly what Prime Focus, Bollywood's leading post-production house, has made possible in Soham Shah's multi-starrer Luck. The film, loosely based on a reality show format and shot extensively in South Africa, has some nail-biting stunt sequences where the difference between life and death is the contestants 'luck'.

The Mumbai based post-production house, which has executed vfx for a number of Bollywood films so far, did some extensive work on Luck. The overriding factor on-shoot was the actors' safety. "As is often the case, this film too demanded the use of computer graphics and visual effects to make possible complex action sequences, including underwater and blasts," Merzin Tavaria, Creative Director, Prime Focus told Bollywood Hungama, "Our brief required us to make sure that the director's vision of cutting-edge and fast paced action sequences came alive on screen. We are glad to have achieved the same"

It's Shahid versus Saif in the charts. And if Shahid is jiving to Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Dhan Te Nan' in Kaminey, Saif grooves to 'Twist' in Love Aaj Kal as though there's no tomorrow.

As far as listeners' choice goes, Vishal's track has a marked market edge, and Pritam has no qualms in admitting it. "I'm the biggest Vishal Bhardwaj fan, no two ways about it. His 'Dhan Te Nan' is awesome. I can't stop listening to it. I wish I had composed it," says the exuberant composer.

Says Pritam, "Never before have two dance numbers been so closely competitive in the charts. The fact that both Vishal's 'Dhan Te Nan' and my 'Twist' have an old-fashioned sub-layer just goes to prove, retro is back."

Both tracks have a ravishing retro feel to it. While 'Twist' has borrowed its main riff from Hemant Mukherjee's Nagin, the main hook line in Vishal's 'Dhan Te Nan' sounds suspiciously similar to the opening musical interlude of Laxmikant-Pyarelal's 'Hai Hai Yeh Majboori' from Manoj Kumar's Roti Kapda Aur Makaan.

While Pritam's 'Twist' openly acknowledges its debt to its source material, Vishal pooh poohs the suggestion that his 'Dhan Te Nan' bears any resemblance to the older song.

Vishal does agree though, that Love Aaj Kal is the main competition for the music of Kaminey.

However, the two current chartbusters, bumper-to-bumper hits of the kind not seen for a very long time, have more in common than it first appears to the eye ...and ear.

And only one of them will finally pull the product beyond the finish line.

Dashavtaar opened to a poor 5-10% response. The film is unlikely to do well at the box office. Meri Padoson is a washout with 0-2% collections and will out of theatres in the next few days Coffee House, Ek Se Bure Do, Pal Pal Dil Ke Ssaat, Royal Utsav and School Days all have extremely poor first week collections and have made an exit from theatres. At an event held at Juhu Shopper’s Stop a huge crowd had gathered. They all wanted to have a dekko of Saif Ali Khan who was expected to arrive there to promote the film The clothes that Saif and Deepika have worn in the film were put up for sale.

The costumes vanished from shelf within minutes. The marketing team of Shopper’s Stop never expected this kind of response from fans. A source from the marketing team said, “What appealed to the people was that they could relate to Saif and Deepika’s costumes in the film. They are as casual as the common man wearing it on the street. Plus they are absolutely affordable. No wonder they got sold like hot pakodas on a rainy day.”

‘Rakhi Ka Swayamvar’ started with much glitz and glamour as a reality show on national television, but speculations were furious if the lady will actually marry or not. As now a days she says, instead of marry she will get engaged to the chosen one.

Emraan Hashmi’s expectations that the Khans will come out in his support when he raised his voice over communalism issue in Mumbai on being denied the NOC to purchase a flat in the posh Pali Hill area, is being slammed instead of being celebrated by Muslim actors in Bollywood. After Salman, Shah Rukh brushed aside the issue stating that such incidents should not be given importance.Earlier superstar Salman Khan laughed off Hashmi’s claim in his characteristic drawl, saying, "Emraan Hashmi would not have been Emraan Hashmi if Mumbai was not secular."

Salman Khan further said, "If communalism existed then Salman Khan would not have been Salman Khan, Aamir not Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh not Shah Rukh Khan. Injustice may have happened to others, but it has not happened to us. I have always got love and support from all quarters."

Shah Rukh, who is a Muslim but prefers to call himself a ‘secular Indian’, said, “I have never been treated differently because of my religion. I am 44 years old now and never in my life have I felt discriminated.”

Moreover, Nibbana, the Housing Society in the posh Pali Hill area of suburban Bandra in Mumbai, has also rubbished actor Emraan Hashmi`s allegation that he was denied NOC for flat ownership because he is a Muslim and said that proper procedures for acquiring the NOC had not been followed.

While and Shahid Kapoor may have had sizzling chemistry off screen with Priyanka Chopra, she refused to lock lips with Shahid in a scene that leads to love making, which eventually leads to her getting knocked up. Now if you won’t kiss, it’s kind of hard to reach the final result, right? But it still took Vishal Bharadwaj two months to convince her to do the scene.

The intimate scene was first shot in Lonavala, but Vishal felt that the result wasn’t very convincing. So, he suggested that they kiss — an idea that did not appeal to Priyanka.

It can’t be that she was repulsed by her co-star, so why did she protest? Our source revealed, “Priyanka said that she was not told about the scene in advance. She categorically told Vishal that she was uncomfortable doing the kissing scene. Vishal did not press the issue and shot the scene without the kiss.”

Vishal was not satisfied, so after a few days, he called the couple to check out the scene. But Shahid was not free to reshoot because he was busy with Ken Ghosh’s Yahoo by then.

“Later, when Priyanka and Shahid saw the scene together with Vishal, Priyanka realised that something was amiss. She understood Vishal’s perspective and agreed to kiss Shahid,” our source added.

Bipasha and Dino were together at the party, which was a going away party for a common friend who was leaving for the US for good.

Everybody was surprised to see Bipasha and Dino partying together in a nightclub last week. The two haven’t been seen much together after they called it quits and Bipasha started seeing John Abraham.

Perhaps the two hanging out together had something to do with a certain Mr Abraham being away in London. As for the Bipasha-Dino equation, despite parting ways, the two have been good friends and no animosity was ever witnessed between them over the years. Vipul Shah's lavishly mounted musical extravaganza, LONDON DREAMS. Salman Khan is convinced that he is playing a supporting role to Ajay Devgan. This revelation was made by Salman himself, who while participating in the shooting of an important scene realized that Ajay was the main hero of the film. But that did not irritate the temperamental Khan, who was more than happy to do so because as per Salman, if he were the main hero he would have definitely ruined the drama. Sughand Production had claimed Kareena Kapoor had taken Rs. 1 million as a signing amount from M/s PJ Sughand Production Pvt Ltd for their film and had refused to return back the sum after she refused to commit dates for their project. In the Elephant mishap on the sets of Mani Ratnam’s Raavana near Cochin Aishwarya was so upset that she postponed schedule and only resume from tomorrow.

Sources said, “The mahout was killed by his elephant and it led to complete chaos. The mishap occurred just after the shoot was wrapped up and it even prevented Ash and Abhishek from reaching the hotel. As a result, there is a shift of location and the remaining shots with Aishwarya will be canned in Ooty. Her earlier schedule had allowed her a day free between the shoots of Raavana and Guzaarish, but not any more.”

Confirming the news, a source close to the actress said, “Aishwarya was to finish her shoot of Raavana today but due to the unfortunate elephant incident last evening, they had to request Sanjay Leela Bhansali for another day to complete her work. The unit of Raavana has shifted to Ooty for the rest of the schedule, which was originally meant to be shot in Kerala. Once she gets back, she will go straight to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s sets.”

Aishwarya is very upset about the mishap. The source added, “She is worried about the mahout’s family and prays that they get through this moment of pain and loss.”

Deepika Padukone was bitten by the malaria bug, butSajid Khan has a houseful of actors and so with Deepika was falling ill due to malaria and was going to threaten the schedule out of gear for shooting his Housefull But according to Sajid Khan, all is well,Deepika the actress has resumed shooting.
Talking to Businessofcinema.com from his shooting location in London, the director said, “Deepika is 90% well and she has resumed shooting.” That certainly brings some relief for the producer, Sajid Nadiadwala who has some of the biggest names in the industry acting in his film.
Akshay Kumar’s dates are precious as he is shooting round the clock. He had given bulk dates for Housefull to Sajid and is expected to be with them till September end. The film unit moves from London to Italy and then for a final week of shooting in Las Vegas.

Salman Khan seems to be upset with the producer Naseer. At the music launch recently of Shadow he displayed his annoyance towards the producers.
Salman Khan, who is well-known for not leaving a single opportunity to take a jibe on anyone, was surprisingly all praise for the newly turned producer actor Naseer Khan. Naseer despite being blind in real-life has played the role of a sharp shooter and car mechanic. Salman somehow was more impressed with producer Naseer Khan than actor.
Comparing him with the other top-notch producers in the industry today, he applauded the honesty in Naseer as a producer. “I respect Naseer, for he did not use his disability to make a fool of people associated with his film, which he could easily do. Unlike others producers who are always ready with some or the other excuse to escape from paying the money, Naseer has be a real gentleman,” says the star.

Recently Salman Khan was invited to a music launch of the forthcoming film Shadow. The film is a suspense thriller directed by Rohit Nayyar.
On the event, as soon as Salman entered the premises, the media, which were present there in hordes, mobbed him immediately. Poor Sallu was shoved under his nose with every microphone present in the room
Of course, all this shoving and pushing irked the temperamental Sallu miya, who got so much irritated that he thought of walking out of the music launch
The organizers had to pacify Sallu Bhai, before he could burst into a temper and stage a walkout
Also, present at the occasion were the cast and crew of Shadow. Our macho man launched the audio CD and wished good luck to the film. Shadow boasts of actors like Naseer Khan, Arjun Sherawat, Milind Soman, Sonali Kulkarni and Hrishita Bhatt and is slated to release on August 7.

Preity Zinta left for New York where she had spent almost a month till the first week of July. She has gone to recover from her break- up with Ness Wadia, but fact is that Preity has gone to New York for training for swing dancing.

A source said, “Preity had earlier attended swing dancing classes for a few days and has again gone to NY to continue learning. Apart from swing dancing, she also wants to learn some other forms of dancing in the US. Moreover, she also has work, which is related to some of the future projects she is considering.”

Preity is staying in the US with an old school friend from Delhi, who, after marriage, is settled there. She has a few other friends in the US as well. She is expected to return to Mumbai after two weeks. Preity’s official spokesperson confirmed the news and said, “Yes, Preity has gone back to NY to complete her training for swing dancing.”

Kareena Kapoor has now taken a conscious break from the babble to play quiet and silently-evocative characters. After Kambakhht Ishq, Kareena is moving on to play a more real salwar-kameez-clad Punjabi girl in Raj Kumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots and also in Rensil D’Silva’s Kurbaan.

In 3 Idiots, she plays a girl who has nothing much to say and she keeps mum, much to Kareena’s relief. “I play a quiet and nice Punjabi doctor,” says Kareena. In Rensil D’Silva’s Kurbaan, she plays a character close to her heart and she loves the silence that the character permitted her. “I’ve got one of the best roles of my career. Rensil D’Silva is such a fine storyteller. Again this girl speaks less and acts more. I play a simple Delhi girl who finds out that her husband is a terrorist,” reveals Kareena about her role in the film.

“I need my acting energies to be re-fuelled. I have been playing talkative characters in all my recent films. Omkara was the last really quiet character I played. In 3 Idiots, I’m soft and gentle and that’s the real me.

I like my silence to speak for me. Unfortunately, in this business I am constantly asked to voice my opinion on everything,” adds Kareena. In fact, she has requested Saif Ali Khan and the director Sriram Raghavan, to let her play a spy in Agent Vinod.

Rakhi decided to make saadi with Gujarati boy Elesh Parujanwala and end her swayamvar. Describing the elaborate wedding plans, an insider says, "Right now, they are preparing for the sangeet and mehendi shoot. The wedding will take place on August 2 at a suburban hotel and will be broadcast live on television. Rakhi will wear a Neeta Lulla ensemble while Elesh still has to decide what he will wear. Rakhi's mom and her family will be present during the shaadi as well. There are also plans to invite a couple of some Bollywood celebrities to the occasion." After the wedding, Rakhi plans to travel to Toronto to meet Elesh's family. "She has already got her Canadian visa and will be flying out with the groom after the shaadi. Elesh has already expressed an interest in purchasing property in Mumbai and settling here post marriage." Another source maintains, "There will be no shaadi. In the twist, the dulha raja chosen by Rakhi will be given a choice of getting married to Rakhi, or accepting a cash booty and walking away. It is believed that Elesh will opt for the cash. It has all been decided. And Rakhi will walk away with the sympathy."

Sanjay Dutt On his birthday, July 29, feels very charitable ,shrugging off stories of Imran Khan undercutting his role in Luck, Sanjay says, “Imran is like a little child. He was very respectful through the two films we’ve done together. He’s a good actor. I wish him luck and I want him to grow into an actor as big as his uncle (Aamir). Sanjay says he did Luck for a lark. “I did it just to help Soham Shah. I really didn’t have the time or date. I told him to just cast me in a small role, which would finish quickly. In fact the role shaped up bigger than planned. As long as it makes some money and no one loses any, I’m happy.”
Hours before his birthday Sanjay is chilled out. But he has regrets about not being able to be near Amar Singh on his birthday. “I couldn’t even visit Amar Singhji because by the time the visa materialized the surgery was over. My wife Maanyata was there. But I speak to him everyday. He’s out of the hospital now. He sounds better. I’ve seen his health deteriorate during the election campaigns. God gave me an opportunity to look after my elder brother during the elections. I’m glad I was around. I can’t do ads or work within corporate sectors, because I am a convict”.

Imran’s LUCK disappointment at box-office. The weekend collections are mere 12 crores which isn’t quite heartening considering the fact that the film boasted of number of top stars and had been given a major release.

‘Luck’, did see a good opening however, negative word of mouth spread soon after, courtesy some mind-puzzling dialogues, unbelievable situations and a totally laughable climax. Wait- what took the cake was an outrageously hilarious epilogue (around Imran Khan’s heart being on his right side instead of left) that totally put off audience.

‘Luck’ has been rejected and a full-fledged spoof seems to be round the corner. After ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’ and ‘Tashan’, the next butt of joke is ‘Luck’, with a readymade recipe of unintentional humor that could liven up the dullest of evenings.

With the film failing to bring in audiences over the weekdays and ‘Love Aaj Kal’ all set to take over audiences attention coming Friday, ‘Luck’ is all set to be second consecutive poor box office show for the combine of Sanjay Dutt and Imran Khan after ‘Kidnap’.

In Farah Khan's chat show Tere Mere Beech Mein. celebrities are chosen to talk on the
selected topics about their fears, insecurities, mistakes, and personal angst. In one such episode, she has Karan Johar and Sonam Kapoor talking about their battle of the bulge while growing up.

Farah confirms, "Karan and Sonam have shot for one episode for my show. The idea is to bring together celebrities and common people under the umbrella of a topic that binds them together. I have a pair of guests who have something in common. So when it came to Karan and Sonam, apart from the fact that the two are super talented, they also emerged as winners fighting off weight issues."

Karan had grilled Farah on his show, so she did the same to him on hers show, "I definitely grilled him into giving me some really interesting anecdotes. The episode has turned out really well and am sure lot of people who are battling with weight issues will get inspired by their stories. But in my case, it's the opposite! I was thin before and now have become fat, while Karan and Sonam have lost so much weight."

The show goes on air on August 22 on Star Plus and Farah is wrapping the shoot before leaving for London.

Kareena who is occacional meeting with directors Abbas Mustan suggested to her Ajnabee directors that they make a sequel to the movie, since she’d loved the original. She gave her word that she’d be a part of the film whenever the script was ready. According to reports, they have already begun working on the script and have been meeting with Kareena, giving her all the latest updates.

“The director duo is incredibly fond of Kareena and would cast her in all their films if they could,” a source close to the pair says. They were also in a dilemma initially because of Bipasha Basu’s possible appearance in the sequel and her history with Bebo, which ironically had begun with Ajnabee. But Kareena assured everyone they had no issues anymore and she’d happily work with Bipasha. The two former rivals avoided having to act alongside each other, though, because Bips was killed off in the original and won’t be featured the sequel.

So far, Kareena has liked what she’s heard about the film from her directors, and is encouraging them to present the final draft soon so that she can get working as soon as possible. From one blockbuster to another, the race is on for Kareena

Vidya Balan after Parineeta, the top-ranked banner approached her for Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. She turned the role down, and it eventually went to Lara Dutta. When they approached Vidya a second time, she again turned them away for Laga Chunari Mein Daag.

With their ego bruised, the banner stayed away from Vidya ever since. But they seem to have changed their minds, and Vidya might soon be seen in one of their films.

“The banner has decided not to be limited by petty ego issues,” says a friend of Vidya’s who was present when she received a call from Yash Raj’s senior executives. Apparently, Vidya didn’t speak to Adi Chopra, but patriarch Yash Chopra himself.

Shahid Kapoor may have been linked up with many like Sania Mirza, Vidya Balan, Priyanka Chopra and now Anushka Sharma, but still the star maintains that he is yet to find his dream woman.
Elaborating on how his dream girl should be, the actor briefs, “She should be able to connect with me emotionally and on a day to day life. The girl should be different, but not to the extent that things doesn’t work out. Last but not the least, I know I would accept her the way she is.”
When asked about, would he tell his girlfriend to turn vegetarian, the actor quickly replies, “If she tells me to eat non vegetarian, I would not like it. Similarly, I would not tell her to leave non veg if she likes to eat that. Anyways this is a personal decision,” he adds.
Shahid has become very shy to media when it comes to talk about his personal life. “I had a public break-up, but now I am very private about my personal life. It became too public and difficult to handle. When there is something substantial, people will come to know about it,” he concludes.

Aishwarya and Shah Rukh’s seven year old cold war is going to end soon. Both will reportedly be seen in Shah Rukh Khan’s next home production.
According to reports, the clash of the two titans that began when Aishwarya was ousted from ‘Chalte Chalte’ (SRK’s home production) due to Salman’s incorrigible behaviour on the sets of the same is on the verge of a cease. Since the ouster episode had not gone down well with Ash. The two chose to keep mum henceforth, leading to a subsequent cold war between the two. But things are now looking positive as the actors have apparently agreed to work together again.

Sources suggest that SRK and Ash have decided to bury their hatchets and work together for a flick to be produced by SRK’s ‘Red Chillies Entertainment’. The other details regarding the project are not known as yet but what’s sure here is the fact that the two colossal actors will surely be seen giving each other company.

The shooting for the film is expected to start in 2010.

Anil Kapoor and daughter Sonam will be seen in front of the camera for the first time for a luxury pen brand's advertisement.

A source reveals, "Anil Kapoor is endorsing a brand for the first time. He was made several offers during his career but never really bit the bait, because he wasn't ever interested. With Sonam getting several offers (with dad in tow) the duo have finally signed on with a luxury pen brand for a whopping amount." It is learnt that the ad will be shot in Mumbai on July 29. This will be Sonam Kapoor's second endorsement.

The source continues, "Anil Kapoor has always refused to sell himself as a commodity. He was one of the few actors who refrained from doing ads despite fantastic offers. He prefers to be remembered for the characters he played in his films and not for endorsing a particular brand. But Anil has changed his principles for the sake of his daughter."

"The brand endorsed by this father-daughter duo, will definitely have an added advantage of targeting different generation and age groups. So no doubt the brand, endorsed by them, will definitely stand to benefit", adds the source.

A source close to Sonam confirms, "This is the first time one will see the father-daughter on screen. Anil is glad to make his debut in the ad industry with his daughter."
